Organizational Foundations PDF Print E-mail

We've found that people who gather for a common purpose - teams, associations, boards of directors and coalitions, to name a few - often find that a variety of factors make it difficult to work effectively. There can be a number of reasons for this:
  • the lack of a clear, common purpose
  • lack of clarity and/or agreement about how the the work of a particular team or group aligns with the organization's goals
  • members' natural tendency to focus on their own needs first - and to sometimes assume that everyone shares those needs
  • a need to better understand how people work together in teams to achieve optimium results
  • the challenge, particularly in organizations with limited and/or volunteer resources of working effectively within limited timeframes and means
These issues can result in reduced momentum and motivation. Organizations can lose committed team members who "burn out." Ultimately, the organization itself may be jeopardized.

IDEA Ltd. can help. We can work with you to:
  • clarify the "whys & hows," through development and/or clarification of your vision, mission and values
  • define the key priorities and the action you need to take to achieve the optimum functional and interpersonal results, by leveraging your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses. Helping you determine the best balance between effort and results.
We'll work with your key stakeholders to develop an approach that best meets your needs. For example:
  • we worked with a "stuck" project team at a business publishing house. They had been unable to reach agreement on how to redeploy their sales force to meet the needs of their client base more economically and efficiently. Through development and deployment of a confidential team assessment and a subsequent facilitated meeting we identified the issues interfering with the team's achievement of their mandate. We helped them develop strategies for moving forward with their work while meeting their individual needs, and they were able to conclude the project without further delay.
  • we worked with a large insurance organization to develop a program to help two recently acquired firms understand and align with their corporate culture. Co-facilitating with senior executives, we shared the parent's rich history and philosophy, linked it with their actions, and through activities and discussion, helped employees see how the process worked through practical application.
  • when two separate departments in a provincial government ministry amalgamated, we developed a program that helped them see how they were, in fact, already working toward the same end, and helped them identify how they needed to move forward to work together most effectively.
  • when a social service organization in Toronto wanted to change their service model to better meet the needs of their client base, we worked with their management and employees to identify concerns and plan how to resolve them.
